The Boyle Inheritance

The Boyles are a landed family who have lived for more than three hundred years in the family estate at Streamhill, near Navan, in Co Meath.

Their heritage is important to them - the family's tenure at Streamhill has embraced several centuries of social change in Ireland. Old Colonel Boyle is a remnant of the older order and still bankers for the days of royalty and landlord dominance.

Margaret and Howard represent a new pragmatic generation but their lives are nonetheless dedicated to the survival of the Streamhill estate. It is a crushing burden but they find new ways of generating revenue and the family lingers on.

Their daughter Imelda takes up with the son of a local politician Tim McCarthy, who introduced Howard Boyle to the underhand world of purloining historic artifacts.

Howard falls for a glamourous business association, Janice Deschamps. Margaret fights back and hopes to save their marriage. There is a stand of with a government department over a valuable piece which they have acquired and Howard finds himself in court.

This is the story of a family which ostensibly lives a pleasant and carefree country life but which in reality has to face harsh and tumultuous decisions.

The Boyle Inheritance is a difficult and dangerous legacy.
