Coloured Horses in Ireland

The coloured horse has really come into its own in Ireland over the past decade.

At one time derided and despised for being a traveller's horse, breeders and producers have responded to an expanding market and begun to produce coloured horses, improving quality in many cases by using thoroughbred sires and successfully entering the competition sphere.

The traditional coloured horse, sometimes known as the Irish Cob, still survives, however. There is trade for him and a place for him and the old bloodlines must be preserved, despite the almost overwhelming trend towards the production of sport horse types.

This book endeavours to provide some information about the advance of the coloured horse in Ireland. The book contains profiles of 100 selected stallions and endeavours to provide information on the intermix of breeds and pedigrees which is now occurring.

There is plenty for the coloured horse enthusiast to savour in these pages.
