Great Connemara Stallions

This is the story of the champions of the Conenmara pony breed, the select band of great sires which have emerged over eighty years of Connemara studbook recording.

The names are legendary, Cannon Ball, number 1 in the Connemara studbook, Carna Bobby, Carna Dun, Ben Lettery, Bridge Boy, they are all there plus a handful of current stars, Westside Mirah, Templebready Fear Bui, Tulira Robuck, Moy Hazy Cove.

There are thirty sires and their notable progeny featured in this book. The fact that there are so few out of some 1200 sires registered since 1923 is perhaps an indication of just how much is required to make a stallion resonate down the years.

Every Connemara enthusiast, will be familiar with the names of the great sires, but few really know anything about them, about their history, about their owners, about the role which they have played in the development of the breed.

This book seeks to redress that deficiency.
